It works!! Thanks to the helpful advice on this entry I was able to create this hoodie using two different groups!
So, the undershirt is made out of the maxis nude male top (but I had to shrink it down quite a bit so it wouldn't clip into the hood, underneath this guy's sweater he is sort of freaky looking..) so anyone can slap the textures of millions of shirts that are already out there underneath (like aikea's shirts, wendigo's shirts.. you know).
And the hoodie is on a totally separate .bmp, and will show up over any high-waisted bottoms. I also adjusted it so there is NO CLIPPING with any of the maxis bottoms from the eps that I have. I feel pretty proud of myself. ;D

I already combined the 3 maxis textures with some of ja's shirt default textures.

If you want, you can download the 3 maxis hood textures with ja's textures underneath, plus my new mesh! (no morphs, I was waaay too tired of working on this mesh to make morphs.)

And, since I liked this mesh so much, I wanted to take a shot at making my own textures:

What do you think? I've been working on them for hours and need some fresh eyes. The two are using different versions of aquilegia's linen overlay, one has it at a lower opacity than the other. I've tried trapping's texture and another random fabric texture I had but they didn't take to the shading as well as the linen texture. I feel like the shading still looks.. grey. Do you know what I mean?
Everything (except the pocket on the arm, and the whole hood) is hand-painted.
What do you think?

EDIT: I uploaded my retextures here!

Oh really!?! I'm so surprised, to me they were just starting to look awful.
Did you like the maxis textures?

The maxis textures look great, but I really love the textures you made and the color choice you use, simple yet functional. :-)

I like the bottom two the most, I think because they're simple? No designs on them. If and when you post them, I'd snag them. There aren't many male clothing that I like, and this is something that's not too plain (because of the cool stripey sleeves) but simple enough to go with most of what I have.

I like simple, solid-color clothes, too because they can look good on any sim and you can always snazz them up with accessories.
And I was so excited when I tried them with the striped sleeves, I think that it keeps them from being boring.

Ooooo! A male top! And it's layered! I am absolutely loving it.
To be honest, I'm not sure about the ones second two pictures because the arrows seem odd to me. I like the fact that the under shirt isn't striped but the sleeves are because it makes it seem like it's triple layered and I like that look.
I'd like more designs on the chest like in the first picture, maybe something like geeky Thundercats logos or Transformers, something for my geeky guys. Or like buttons there. (But then again, that's completely on you and I would totally download these without that.)
Also I like how the pocket isn't painted on, it pops out - little details like that make me sooooo happy. Also Aquilegia's linen textures are not used enough in my opinion, they always look sooooo soft to me.

The first three are all the maxis hood textures.. they are a little odd but I'm not very picky when it comes to male clothes, I'll take almost anything. ;D

I usually don't do anything with logos because.. I don't really know why. xD I'll be sharing my .psd though so you can of course make your own, or maybe I can make a small subset for you if you find me the logos you want?

OMG I KNOW I love that little pocket!

Aquilegia's linen texture is like magic, with the right shading it looks great on almost any mesh.

Yeah, Maxis textures are a little... off to me but I can totally understand needing a lot of male clothing no matter what's on them.
I also understand the logos thing, some people don't like them and I would try but idk if that psd would work with Paint.net since Photoshop won't work on my comp. If it doesn't I'll send you some logos. I need to put that on my list since I already promised nemestnaya I'd send her some pictures of my clutter so she can use them for reference.
LITTLE MESHED DETAILS! I squealed, I really did, I absolutely think that more meshes need tiny details like that, it makes me fall in love with certain meshes.
Oh God, I know! Just looking at those textures make me want linen clothes, I used to have a pair of black linen pants and they were the comfiest things in the world. I wore them whenever I felt uncomfortable and it just made me smile. You know how certain textures just look amazing in game? Her linen is at the top of my list.

I totally took the ones you put up for d/l, and as for the WIP--I like it, but I kind of agree with the comment above me, a design might help it look less baggy on the bottom (which is great for guys, but with the fur it almost looks like they have a belly that's not actually there). I am by no means an expert though, I've never made anything for the Sims in my life! And the hand-painted textures look great. :)

I sort of like how baggy they look, most of my male sims are stuck in skin-tight tee shirts and I like how this looks more like what I see boys in real life wear. I will of course try some kind of logo, and see how I can fit it under my shading. Do you have any logo suggestions?

This is seriously awesome and I love your new textures too! The ones with the lower linen opacity looks great to me, but they're both awesome!

I decided to use an opacity between those two. One was at 50, the other was at 15 so I used one at 20 and I think it worked out the best. xD

Oooh these are great! I prefer the higher opacity of the linen texture, but I dunno thats just me haha. Oh and I think that the pockets on your texture need to stand out more, it might just be the angle, but they arn't very noticeable. But everything looks great! I can't wait to get my hands on them :D

I sort of liked the way that they pop out from certain angles but from other angles you can't see them, it worked out nicely for putting designs on them, so that from the front you can see the picture on the shirt really clearly.

I love your idea and these look absolutely amazing!
And your textures are beautiful, the shading does not look gray at all and I really like the wrinkles and the way the seaming looks! I'd snag them in an heartbeat! :D

I agree, maxis has some really great stuff in there if you can just sift it out. It's a lot easier than trying to make a mesh from scratch anyway. ;D

It looks great! I'm looking forward to it. It looks like something a guy might wear irl. :) I have a few suggestions though, I hope you don't mind. Sorry about the anonymous posting, I'm really shy about giving criticism.

Your retexture makes it kind of look like one piece, rather than a jacket that can be opened and closed. On the maxis texture, it looks more like a zipped up jacket because on one side of where it zips up it is slightly shaded, and the line continues into the bottom hem. The button on the hem also helps in making it look less like one piece. If the one piece hoodie was the look that you were going for, then uh, disregard that. I still like it. This is just in case you were wanting to make it look zipped up.

As for the texture, it looks really good. I think the darker lines on the back of the hood look a slight bit too pronounced, but it's not a big deal. The last thing is that at the bottom of the hoodie, there seems to be a shaded corner that I don't really understand what it's there for. Sorry for being so nit-picky.

it's okay, don't be shy! Criticism helps make me better!

I was going for a more one-piece hoodie, I just wanted to make things really simple for myself and the physical mesh has all of the parts meshed on that I felt I didn't need to add texture to.

I tried to fix the hood and lighten it a bit for the final version, and the shaded corner is a little hidden pocket type thing. Don't apologize! I actually didn't read this comment until after I was finished with the new set, or else I would have fixed my texture better according to your suggestions. :)
